July 12, 2020, The Sixth Sunday After Pentecost

WELCOME, CONFESSION and FORGIVENESS, ENTRANCE HYMN,

and PRAYER OF THE DAY

Confession and Forgiveness:

P: Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

C: Amen

P: Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another.

Most merciful God,

C: we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

P: In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for his sake God forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

C: Amen.

Greeting:

P: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

C: And also with you.

PRAYERS of INTERCESSION and OFFERING

Prayers of Intercession:

A: Called into unity with one another and the whole creation, let us pray for our shared world.

We praise you for the Word who has come among us as Jesus the Christ. By his Spirit empower us with boldness for living your reign of compassion. Give us courage to speak the prophetic word and to live as sowers of service and grace.

Your people are threatened by plague and illness, financial woes and poverty, racism and bigotry. Heal those who suffer from any ailment. Help not only leaders of nations, but people in all walks of life to live among each other in the harmony you intended. We pray for a world which better reflects your will; and may your will be done, not only to us, but through us.

Receive these prayers, O God, and those too deep for words; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

C: Amen.

This Day

Lyrics and Music by Lowell Alexander

This day is fragile, soon it will end. And once it has vanished it will not come again.

So let us love with a love pure and strong before this day is gone.

This day is fleeting. When it slips away, not all our money can buy back this day.

So let us pray that we might be a friend before this day is spent.

This day we’re given is golden, let us show love.

This day is our for one moment, let us sow love.

This day is frail, it will pass by. So, before it’s too late to recapture the time,

Let us share love. Let us share God before this day is gone. Before this day it gone.

The Lord's Prayer:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive us our trespasses against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory. Amen.

Blessing:

A: May God be with you so that you would go out in joy and be led forth in peace. May the trees of the fields clap their hands and the mountains break for into song.

And may God, the Creator, Jesus, the Christ, and the Holy Spirit, the comforter, bless you and keep you in eternal love.

C: Amen.
